Questions Parents Often Ask

How do I know if my child might benefit from OT?

If your child is finding everyday activities challenging—whether that's managing emotions, getting dressed, handwriting, play, friendships or social situations—occupational therapy may be able to help. You don't need to be certain before reaching out. If you're unsure, I'd be happy to talk through your concerns and help you decide whether OT is the right fit for your child.

Is Move Play Learn the right fit?

Move Play Learn may be a good fit when:

  • Your child's challenges are affecting participation in everyday life

  • You are looking for practical, individualised support

  • Your family values a neurodiversity-affirming and strengths-based approach

  • You want to understand what may be contributing to your child's difficulties

  • You are open to collaboration between your family, occupational therapist and your child's broader team

  • Parents or caregivers can participate in consultations or coaching as recommended

  • Your child is able to access a clinic-based or online service

Another service may be more appropriate when:

  • The primary need is an Autism, ADHD, learning or mental health diagnostic assessment

  • Your child requires crisis intervention or acute mental health care

  • Regular home, school, kindergarten or community visits are essential

  • You require an NDIA-managed provider

  • You are seeking ongoing child-only therapy without parent consultation or collaboration

  • The primary concern falls outside the scope of occupational therapy

  • Your child requires a type or intensity of support that Move Play Learn cannot safely provide

Does my child need a diagnosis?

Not at all. Many families come to Move Play Learn before a diagnosis, during the assessment process, or without ever seeking one. Therapy focuses on understanding your child's strengths, challenges and goals—not on a diagnosis.

What are your fees?

Sessions are charged at $193.99 per 60 minutes, in line with NDIS Pricing Limits and Arrangements.

Standard sessions run for 80 minutes, which allows time for the session itself plus post-session administration and clinic notes.

What happens in an OT session?

Every session is tailored to your child's interests, strengths and goals. Therapy is play-based and may include games, movement, craft, problem-solving or everyday activities that help build real-life skills in a way that's engaging and meaningful.

While sessions often look like play, every activity has a purpose.

Do you offer outreach or school visits?

Move Play Learn is a clinic-based service. We don't currently offer outreach therapy or visit schools, kindergartens, or childcare centres.

Recent NDIS changes mean travel is no longer funded, and many facilities now charge access fees that aren't covered by NDIS — costs we won't pass on to families.

We stay closely connected with your child's team regardless. Regular liaison with teachers and other professionals often gives us richer, more useful information than a single observation visit ever could.

What if my child doesn't engage?

That's completely okay. Some children need a little extra time to feel comfortable in a new environment or with a new therapist.

I follow your child's lead, build trust first, and adapt sessions to match their interests, communication style and comfort level. There's no expectation for children to participate before they're ready.

Are parents involved in therapy?

Absolutely. Parents are an important part of the therapy process, not just at the beginning or end of a session.

I work alongside you so the strategies we use during therapy can be carried into everyday life. Meaningful progress happens when everyone is working towards the same goals.

How often will my child need therapy?

This depends on your child's individual needs and goals. Some children benefit from weekly sessions, while others attend fortnightly or in therapy blocks. After getting to know your child, I'll recommend an approach that best supports your family.

Do you work with schools and kindergartens?

Yes. With your permission, I can collaborate with teachers, educators and other professionals to help create consistent strategies across home, school and therapy.

Do you work with NDIS participants?

Yes. Move Play Learn welcomes self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants, as well as private clients and children accessing occupational therapy through a Medicare referral. At this stage, I am unable to accept NDIA-managed participants.

What ages do you see?

I support children and young people from infancy through to 16 years of age. Every session is tailored to your child's age, developmental stage, strengths and individual needs.

How long are appointments?

Appointment lengths vary depending on the service and your child's needs. I'll discuss the most appropriate appointment type with you before therapy begins, so you'll know exactly what to expect.

What if I have a complaint?

Your feedback matters, and you always have the right to raise concerns about the supports or services you receive. In the first instance, we encourage you to speak directly with Sara. Most concerns can be resolved quickly and openly in conversation.

If you feel your concern hasn't been addressed, or you'd prefer to raise it independently, you can contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission:

Phone: 1800 035 544
Website: ndiscommission.gov.au
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (local time)

The Commission handles complaints about NDIS providers and can be contacted by participants, their families, carers, or advocates.
